This Privacy Policy describes how MysticMate ("we", "our", or "the extension") handles information when you use our browser extension. This policy applies to both the Chrome Web Store version and the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store version of MysticMate.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Local Storage Data

MysticMate stores the following information locally on your device:

• User Preferences: Mascot count, scale settings, personality presets
• Mascot States: Position coordinates, lifecycle states, animation states
• Owned Mascots List: List of mascots you own, including custom names and personalities (synchronized across your devices)
• Cached Data: Character specification files (spce.json) with a 24-hour expiration

1.2 Network Requests

Currently, the extension does not make any network requests to fetch character configuration files or resources. All character data and resources are bundled within the extension package and loaded locally from your device.

In the future, if we add support for fetching character configurations from remote servers, we will update this privacy policy accordingly.

2. How We Use Information

2.1 Local Data Usage

All data stored locally is used solely for:

• Maintaining mascot states across page reloads
• Remembering user preferences and settings
• Caching character specifications to improve loading performance

2.2 Network Data Usage

Currently, the extension does not make network requests for character data. All resources are loaded locally from the extension package.

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Storage Locations

MysticMate uses browser storage APIs that are compatible across Chrome and Microsoft Edge:

• chrome.storage.local (or browser.storage.local): Persistent storage for user settings and mascot states (device-specific)
• chrome.storage.sync (or browser.storage.sync): Cross-device synchronized storage for owned mascots list and custom personalities
• chrome.storage.session (or browser.storage.session): Temporary cache for character specifications (24-hour expiration, cleared when browser closes)

Note: The extension uses the same storage APIs on both Chrome and Microsoft Edge, ensuring consistent behavior across platforms.

3.2 Data Security

All data is stored locally in your browser and is never transmitted to external servers. Character configuration files and resources are bundled within the extension package and loaded locally from your device.

We do not have access to your stored data, and it cannot be accessed by third parties through our extension.

4. Permissions and Their Usage

4.1 Storage Permission

This permission is required to save your mascot preferences, settings, and state information (position, lifecycle status, etc.) locally in your browser. All data is stored locally and never uploaded to any server.

4.2 Tabs Permission

This permission allows the extension to detect tab switches and manage mascot visibility across different tabs. When you switch to another tab, mascots automatically hide; when you return, they restore. We only read basic tab information (URL, ID) and do not track your browsing behavior or store your browsing history.

4.3 ActiveTab Permission

This permission is required for the interactive element (IE) feature, which allows mascots to capture and carry webpage elements (such as images, buttons, or other interactive elements) as part of their behavior animations (e.g., WalkWithIE, ThrowIE). The screenshot is taken automatically when a mascot interacts with a webpage element, and the captured image is used only locally to render the mascot's animation. Screenshots are:

• Only taken when mascots interact with webpage elements (automatic behavior)
• Used only locally for display purposes (not stored or transmitted)
• Not taken in the background or without user interaction
• Processed locally without being sent to any server

4.4 Alarms Permission

This permission is used to periodically check mascot lifecycle states (e.g., checking if a mascot's "leaving" state has expired and should be restored). This is an internal state management feature that runs only when the extension is active and does not involve any network requests or data transmission.

4.5 Host Permissions (<all_urls>)

This extension requires access to all websites because:

• Content scripts must automatically run on all webpages to display mascots
• Mascots need to appear automatically when pages load, without requiring user interaction
• The extension continuously monitors page changes, scans for interactive elements, and runs physics systems
• This is a core functionality requirement - mascots cannot function if they only appear after user clicks

The content script runs only in the webpage context and does not:

• Read or modify sensitive webpage data (passwords, payment information, etc.)
• Send webpage content to external servers
• Track your browsing behavior

5. Third-Party Services

Currently, MysticMate does not fetch character configuration files or resources from third-party URLs. All character data and resources are bundled within the extension package.

For user feedback, we use Google Forms. When you choose to submit feedback, the form content you provide is sent directly to Google and handled under Google's own privacy policy. We do not embed additional analytics scripts (such as Google Analytics) in the extension, and we do not use your data for tracking or profiling.

If we add support for fetching resources from third-party URLs in the future, we will update this privacy policy to clearly disclose such practices.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do NOT:

• Share your data with third parties
• Sell your data to advertisers or data brokers
• Use your data for analytics or tracking purposes
• Transmit your browsing history or website content to external servers

7. User Rights and Control

You have full control over your data:

• Disable the Extension: You can disable the extension at any time through Chrome's extension management page
• Clear Data: You can clear all stored data by clicking "Clear Data" in the extension management page
• Uninstall: Uninstalling the extension will automatically delete all local data
• Review Permissions: Chrome displays all required permissions during installation, and you can choose not to install

8. Children's Privacy

MysticMate is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us to have it removed.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will:

• Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
• Notify users through the extension or release notes (if applicable)

Your continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
